Fortan Keep
Founded by: King Shimir Tul’Ootza
Governed by: The Fortan Keep Council
Figurehead: Tul’Minika
King Shimir Tul’Ootza conquered the island and discovered an ancient, ruined network of mysterious origin. Fascinated by its potential, he built a new stronghold atop the ruins using Thayn architecture — Ootza’s Claim. Today a city engulfs most of the island: Fortan Keep, a crucial hub for trade, military planning and cultural exchange on the edge of the Thayn Empire.
The city is governed by the Fortan Keep Council, predominantly controlled by guilds — the Brazzim, the Higerians and the traders. Tul’Minika are the figurehead leaders of the isle but have no real control due to the war and its position; none of the Minika reside in the city, though they occasionally send their princess to maintain a symbolic presence. Fortan Keep is currently troubled by crime: gangs known as Klyn’s have formed to capitalize on the Knights’ preoccupation with the war just over the hills.
Ethlan’ka, the Old Keep District — the westernmost birthplace of the fort, a labyrinth of narrow winding streets, old stone-and-wood buildings, inns and taverns, and the cultural heart of the city.
Masithlan, the Farming District — south of the Grand City, with meticulously maintained canals and circular reservoirs. The Hills of Vines are famous for purple flower farms and the barely visible ruins of ancient races.
Torithlan, the Eastern Bridge District — the industrial hub of warehouses, manufacturers and factories, linking the farms, trade district and residences.
Ferath, the District of Imperial Trade — the Grand Imperial Docks, bustling markets, trade houses, and Ivelport, the great airship docktower in the northeast.
Higraithlan, the Higerian District — massive research temples adorned with Brazz and equipped with telescopes, access restricted to Higerians and Brazzim, surrounding the Garden of Craitep where alchemists grow their herbs.
Vincazzlan, the Vincazz District — the upper-class enclave of politicians, Knights of Brazzim and Higerians, with private clubs, theaters and galleries.
Draklan, the Western Bridge District — the low-income underbelly of brothels, fight clubs, smuggling and black-market trade.
Anorath, the Fortan Gateway District — the main entrance to the city and the route to the warfront, with massive gates of reinforced stone and Brazz alloy, held by the elite Fortan Guard. The Knights of Brazzim Barracks lie just outside the city to the northeast, with its Shrine of Brazzim at the center.
